Share Your Favourite Free VST Instruments!

Quote from DDz Admin on 20/08/2025, 3:03 PMHello everyone,
We thought it would be great to start a thread where we can all share our favourite free VST instruments for music production. There are so many hidden gems out there that can really enhance a track without costing a penny, and we’re sure many of us have come across a few worth recommending.
👉 Please feel free to share:
The name of the VST
What makes it great (sound quality, features, ease of use, etc.)
A link or information on where to download it (official sites only, please!)
Perhaps a note about which styles or genres you use it for
This way we can build a shared resource where everyone – from beginners to seasoned producers – can discover new instruments to experiment with.
We’ve already featured some excellent free VSTs on our website to help get you started, including a few niche favourites:
Spitfire LABS
A fantastic collection of beautifully recorded, expressive instruments ranging from strings to pianos and quirky soundscapes. It’s lightweight and ideal for cinematic, ambient, and experimental music.
Dexed
A powerful FM synthesiser modelled on the Yamaha DX7, perfect for classic 80s synth sounds, bells, and electric pianos. Great for electronic, retro, and synthwave styles.
Surge
An open-source, highly versatile digital synth with multiple synthesis methods (FM, wavetable, subtractive). It offers loads of presets and deep customisation for sounds ranging from basses to atmospheric pads.
Gorilla Bass
A specialised VST designed to create heavy Reese basslines, perfect for drum & bass, jungle, 2-step, and garage music productions. A real gem if you’re after that deep, gritty bass texture.
Details and link featured on our site here:
Free Software & VST PluginsPancake 2
A creative free plugin for adding rhythmic panning effects, great for bringing life and movement to synths, guitars, and percussion. Easy to use with various sync options for tight groove control.
Naive LPF
A simple but effective low-pass filter plugin that adds warmth and shape to sounds. Ideal for taming harsh highs and creating smooth transitions in mixes.
We hope to add more brilliant free VST recommendations from your suggestions in this thread, so please share your favourite instruments along with download links or info! If your recommendation is featured on our site, we will be sure to acknowledge you.
Looking forward to hearing about your favourite free VSTs!
