RBRT's first exposure to drum & bass was skateboarding back around the start of the millennium. The two main CD's that first drew his attention to the sound were Dieselboy - System Upgrade and then later on Ganja Kru - Darklight. He loved the energy of both those albums and they got rinsed. After that he started learning a bit more about the artists making drum & bass.
From then on he was listening to people like Roni Size,
Adam F & Shy FX.
The first rave he went to was an old skool thing at The Scala in Kings Cross in 2005 then he started going to things like One Nation and Breakin' Science. He got really into the jump up sound and didn't really pay much attention to the liquid side of drum & bass
until a bit later on.
He got his first set of decks in the winter of 2007. His setup was so sketchy, two Stanton STR8-180's (which he still uses) and a Gemini 626 mixer on it's last legs donated by DJ 2E (big up Chris). He started mixing the tunes he had been hearing at the raves he was going to so it was mostly a lot of jump up.
The first 'liquid' record he bagged was probably Nu:Tone - Missing Links VIP or Logistics - Spacejam EP amongst the other jump up records he was buying. Around the end of 2008/start of 2009 he'd had enough of jump up tunes that were way too disposable, He kept finding tunes would just sit there and not be played. His mixing style and tune selection has evolved from then on. He started paying more attention to labels such as Shogun Audio, Subtitles, V Recordings, CIA, Critical & Metalheadz.
If you lock into one of his shows you'll hear music from artists like Break, Alix Perez, Spectrasoul, Data, Enei, Joe Syntax, Noisia, A Sides, Rockwell, Commix, S.P.Y, Calibre, Eveson, June Miller, Need for Mirrors - the list could go on for a lot longer!
